Why does sample tubing need to be replaced?

The tubing connecting sample dispersion units and flow cells should have sufficient elasticity to maintain an air-tight seal. When tubing loses its elasticity, air will leak into the system at the points where the tubing is attached to the sample unit and the cell and the resulting bubbles in the system can give rise to instability in the backgrounds and in the sample measurements.

Pay particular attention to the condition of tubing if organic dispersants are regularly used since many of these, particularly toluene, will cause tubing to harden so that the act of moving a sample dispersion unit relative to the sizer can cause the tubing to become detached.
